Ahoy there!

The boat is sinking and people are jumping ship.

Projected casualties: 3

Can't really blame them when I'm tempted to do the same thing myself. We work long hard hours to create events that make an impact. It's not a sales pitch. It's a fact. Staging events takes a lot of work and is made up of a gazillion tiny details that are interconnected. One mistake and the ripple will be felt all throughout. This is where the problem lies. We have an open plan office but communication is crap. Details are kept tightly within the Project Managers' fists until the last possible minute. It's us down the ladder that has to scramble like mad to make the cut.

It's not so funny when you're working 16-20 hours on an unhurried gig and 24-48 hours straight on tightly scheduled ones. On such gigs, a full sit down meal and more than 2 hours sleep are luxuries that we are given rarely. It wouldn't come down to that if there is proper coordination and cooperation. Unfortunately, there is little or none, and it has come down on my shoulders to work magic and find solutions to problems as they come. I have a system in mind that would make MY life easier and prevent any problems during gigs. I still have half a mind to keep it to myself, for now. I know that any suggestion coming from me (a newbie non-techie) to improve THEIR system that has thrived for 6 years would be thrown straight in the shredder bin.

The system I came up with will force the PMs to share information from the onset. Each detail will be listed down and compiled and will be transparent to all. Meaning, mistakes will be tracked down easily which they won't like. Sorry is taboo in their vocabulary. Making them admit to any mistake will be like prying off a prey from a lion's mouth...try at the risk of being devoured alive.

Right now, I'm on cruise control...quietly waiting, patiently observing, gathering facts, before I make any decision. No jumping ship before my trip to Sydney, that's for sure. Then again, the waters might actually settle down come summer when the temp rises to 46 and it's too hot for anybody to bother with shows.
