It's BECAUSE!

She seems to be very ambitious, like she has a lot to prove to the world.

There it was, the judgment according to a Malaysian demi-stranger I met once. I was already drifting off to la la land in my snug bed when my phone rang. My friend needed to talk and since she was one (if not the only) close friend who lives in the same country, I tried to keep my eyes open and be my usual lovely entertaining self (*insert grunt)

She recently became a flight attendant and was seeing the Malaysian (a fellow FA)on the sly. Her boyfriend of so and so years was back home perfecty playing the part of supportive and loyal long-distance bloke. Blissfully clueless.

I met him at her recent birthday dinner and when I left he told her what he thought of me. Lovely would have been preferable. Charming, the usual. Entertaining, flaterring. Stuck up bitch, offensive. Ambitious and has a lot to prove, too accurate and provoking for a first impression. She explained that it was my book choice that nailed it, this being the same book I mentioned in my previous post. Talk about being judged because of a book cover.

It was said plainly and unlaiden with any negativity and my reaction took me by surprise. Why was I offended? Was it because he was too perceptive for comfort? Perhaps I don't want it to be obvious that I'm lugging around excess baggage, and getting rid of it bit by bit along the way. I don't even know whay I'm making a big deal out of it when all I should be concerned with is what the hell she is doing with this guy when she has a man back home who knows her (the real one and not the current adapted version) and loves her to death!

The conversation ended with a warning that somebody is bound to get hurt in these tricky situations. Confusion fuzzes clear lines that, once crossed, takes you permanently to an alternate reality that pragmatists lovingly refer to as the present. The white paper, representative of years of their spotless relationship, will be filled with a huge black dot. If not ripped entirely. She can share a new paper with the Malaysian but not without creases of an aftershock from the last one.

Whatever makes you happy, love. (*insert yawn)

Click.

Lights off.
